Protect YourSELF.
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” — Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
One of the easiest mistakes to make while serving in ministry is assuming that because we’re serving God, we’re automatically staying close to God.
BUT, here’s the thing… We can serve publicly while neglecting our heart privately.
Sin rarely starts with a major failure. It usually begins with small compromises, unchecked thoughts, hidden offenses, unconfessed pride, or a slow drift from Jesus. That’s why Scripture tells us to guard our hearts. EVERYTHING flows from it. Your worship, emotions, marriage, parenting, relationships, and ministry all flow from your heart. When you guard your heart, you’re protecting all of these things.
Spend time with Jesus this week. Stay sensitive to the Spirit. Don’t allow hidden sin to take root.
Weeds were meant to be pulled not pruned.
Don’t just get rid of things on the surface. Dig deeper. Get rid of the source of whatever is producing unhealthy things in your heart (Hebrews 12:1-3). The greatest thing you bring to your church isn’t your talent or availability, it’s a heart that belongs fully to Jesus.
Think about it…
- Is there any unhealthy thing growing in my heart?
- Do I have my priorities in order?
